Aside from economic reasons, the male senior citizens are also not interested to participate in the contest, she added.
This year, there are 94 congregates registered on Saipan. Twenty percent of them are men.
Mondala said three female senior citizens have shown interest to join the contest. “But nobody wants to join among the males,” she added.
Last year, Jose Torres and Rita Flawau were crowned manamko’ king and queen in the theater hall of the Palms Resort.
Mondala said they generated $11,000 for the manamko’ king and queen fundraising activity last year.
She said they will still raise funds even without a king and queen competition.
They will have a bingo open to the public, she added.
