SAIPAN and Tinian are in severe drought conditions, according to a statement by the National Weather Service-Guam.
Severe drought conditions persist across Saipan and Tinian, and abnormally dry conditions persist across Guam and Rota, NWS-Guam stated.
Its report also indicated that a drier pattern continues to emerge across the Marshall Islands and a few islands of the Federated States of Micronesia.
“Rainfall patterns varied across the region the last couple of weeks. Seasonably dry conditions persisted across Guam and the CNMI with only spotty, light showers across the Marianas,” NWS-Guam stated.
“The seasonal dry pattern will continue across the Marianas the next few weeks with little rainfall in sight.”
As for agricultural impact, NWS-Guam stated: “Vegetation on plantations continue to brown across most of the CNMI, with drier conditions also emerging across Guam and Rota, where vegetation is thinning and browning.”
The risk of wildfire will increase due to the ongoing dry pattern, NWS-Guam stated.
NWS-Guam advises the public to monitor water levels closely.
Last month, NWS-Guam also forecast drought conditions for Saipan and Tinian.
Landon Aydlett, a meteorologist at NWS-Guam, advises residents, farmers, and ranchers to take advantage of water catchments.
NWS-Guam said it will provide an update by April 18, 2025, or sooner if drought conditions change significantly.
