October is Disability Employment Awareness Month

Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Director Maggie Olopai-Taitano yesterday told Variety that they will be coming up with month-long events to highlight the valuable contributions of the over a hundred employees and individuals with disabilities in the CNMI.

“We would like to take this chance to show our appreciation to the persons with disabilities for doing the best they can to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others,” Taitano said.

She  said they value the assistance of employers who open their doors for job opportunities to persons with disabilities in the workforce.

She added that they are trying to reach as many persons with disabilities as they can and ensure that people with disabilities are accorded equal employment opportunities under the law.

According to Taitano, statistics show that there over a hundred individuals with disabilities in the CNMI, including those who are in current employment, those in training for work, those studying and those who have just finished or are continuing their preparation for work.
