Parents, guardians, or teachers are required to initial the logs for pages to be counted. It was the school’s second time hold the event in support of Reading Campaign held every February. Class and individual winners were recognized on stage during Monday’s flag ceremony.
Individual student winners received two books of their choice and a certificate. Winning classes from each grade level received a basket full of books.
Most books the students received are categorized as Accelerated Reader books to help support the program that aims to improve the students’ reading levels.
A total of 520,043 pages were read compared to last year’s 313,663 pages. The school aims to read 1,000,000 pages next school year.
Coordinators this year were Tina Tenorio, reading resource teacher; Jasylene Parico, reading resource teacher; and Charlene Valle, library aide.
Individual winners were Daven Arriola who read a total of 2,168 pages; Teody Valenzuela, 3,261; Jorean Guardian, 4,307; Bernadette Javier, 6,139; Jerry-Lyn Singeo, 7,514; Leana Cristobal, 7,645; and Jocelyn Teregeyo,14,395.
Grade levels were also awarded by the total number of pages read in each classroom.
Kindergarten teacher Bertha Orsini helped her students read a total of 21,076 pages; first grade teacher Ms. Orpha Singeo and her students, 28,709; second grade teacher Roxie Lamar and her students, 9,495; third grade teacher Jackie Chong and her students, 30,598; fourth grade teacher Teresita Reyes and her students, 40,531; fifth grade teacher. Terry Guerrero and her students, 46,705; and sixth grade teacher Joey Quitugua and his students, 44,026.
