The next detonation may be held by the end of next month, he added.
On Friday, the Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment Marianas and the Emergency Management Office detonated over 1,000 lbs of various unexploded ordnance at the Laderan Laggun Cliff Line in Marpi.
Tourists and viewers who witnessed the detonation operation from Suicide Cliff said that Friday’s detonation was the “loudest ever.”
Over 4,000 lbs of unexploded ordinance had already been detonated this year, and most were unearthed from the Marpi Homestead Project which started last March.
Scott said the project will end in October.
“After one more big detonation, we will go back to the regular detonation operations like before,” he said.
Scott said Saipan has a huge volume of World War 2 unexploded ordnance that has yet to be unearthed.
He urged the community to report to DPS immediately if they find any unexploded ordnance near their homes.
Residents should not attempt to touch or dispose ordnance, he added.
CNMI Explosive Ordnance Team commander Capt. Pete Leon Guerrero earlier said that the storage pit for unexploded ordnance cannot hold much hence the need to conduct frequent detonation operations.
Leon Guerrero said the limit per detonation is about 1,000 lbs of unexploded ordnance.
