The reference from Shen Yen, chief executive officer, Eco World USA, regards the new business division she opened on Saipan in October named Eco Island Development.
Products the company offers include full-spectrum LED lighting and solar panel systems.
Eco Island’s goal is to help electricity consumers reduce their power bills by half, which in turn frees up more money to circulate in the economy.
“Our objective isn’t only to make money, but in fact help residents reduce ever-rising electricity bills…in the long-term that’s good for the island’s environment and can help save and create jobs.”
Shen’s large world-view represents her expanding business reach — eco-products, printing and electronics manufacturing in China — between the California headquarters and Asia-Pacific.
Her business experience covers 40-years in Taiwan, where she was born, to America and back again across the Pacific Ocean.
“I love both sides of the Pacific and have been bridging the two areas for a long time…Saipan is a logical addition considering the potential and need for green energy solutions.”
The man chosen to spearhead the company’s growth and implement Shen’s vision in the CNMI is Herman Sablan, former chairman of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors.
Sablan is convinced that the economics of green energy is quickly becoming competitive and hopes to break the monopoly of his former organization.
“Fossil fuels are not the long-term solution to CNMI’s economy…their price will always hinder business growth…it’s time to make the change to sustainable technologies — both for the island’s health and its prosperity.”
Shen shares her vice president’s view because she not only is an island business owner but refers to herself as a part-time resident.
“Saipan is now a second home for me … my next visit is in January and I’m really looking forward to the trip.”
