Over 100 students turn out for PSS Career Fair

The event was held in the Royal Taga Ballroom of Saipan World Resort and drew the participation of over 100 students.

Marianas High School teacher Tyce Mister said the turnout was almost the same as last year’s.

The participating students were from Marianas High School, Kagman High School, Saipan Southern High School, Rota High School cooperative education and training program and the special education transition program.

Mister said 16 students flew in from Rota but there was none  from Tinian.

Kealany Camacho and her classmates from Kagman High School — Jazz Manglona, Debra Buekis and Jay Charley — said  they submitted several application letters to companies that joined the fair.  Camacho plans to join the U.S. Army after graduating from high school.

Ray Deleon Guerrero, job coach for Marianas High School’s special education program, said he assisted seven student applicants.

“I see to it that the students go through the transition program smoothly — from submitting their applications and facilitating transportation when they get calls for interviews later,” Deleon Guerrero said.

He said as much as possible, they urge the students to submit many applications and explore a wide field of experience in various jobs.

The participating companies and agencies were the Marianas Variety, the judiciary, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., the Division of Environmental Quality, the Division of Youth Services, the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Hard Rock Café, Hyatt Regency Saipan, IT&E, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, the Law Office of Robert Torres, Louis Vuitton, Marianas Health Services, Mariana Resort & Spa, the Marianas Visitors Authority, Northern Marianas College, the Northern Marianas Housing Corp., Northern Marianas Trades Institute, the Office of Adult Probation, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, Saipan Grand Hotel, Saipan World Resort, Sorensen Media Group, Tan Holdings, Torres Refrigeration and the Workforce Investment Agency.
