P&A Corporation President Doyi Kim and about 30 of her employees cleaned up a beach area at Coral Ocean Resort in Koblerville on Saturday.
The employees of Pacific Eco Laundry, Winners Hardware and CK Smoke House — all operated by P&A Corporation — gathered at the COR beach equipped with gloves and plastic bags to pick up trash in the area and around the pavilion south of COR’s 18-hole golf course. They collected trash that filled more than 10 big plastic bags.
The cleanup was followed by a raffle in which many P&A employees won prizes.
It was the second time that P&A Corporation held a cleanup this year. The first was in August on Beach Road.
Kim said she believes that “small efforts can achieve big things.”
The beach cleanup, she said, is a small task, but when done on a regular basis, it can help keep the island clean.
Kim said she and her employees also enjoy becoming a part of a community that looks after itself.
“I would like to thank all staff and their families who participated,” she added.
Kim said they plan to conduct a beach cleanup regularly every two months. They will also work with other companies next time, and hope that more people will join and experience “the joy of volunteer service.”
“We’re all currently struggling to survive,” she said, referring to the dismal state of the local economy, “but I hope we can gain greater enjoyment through the joy of volunteer work as part of the island community,” Kim said.
