The Cyber Safety Pacific campaign is organized by police chiefs around the region. It targets children and teenagers in an effort to guard against cyber bullying and online predators. If successful, the program will be introduced to other Pacific countries in 2012.
Niue’s internet is free, and police chief Mark Chenery says it made sense to pilot the program in there.
“We are an isolated island and a lot of relatives from the local population are back in New Zealand and Australia, so we are very computer-savvy,” he said.
“I think about 84 percent of the population is hooked up.” Chenery said.
