Variety learned that two officials from PacificFlier met with Gov. Benigno R. Fitial yesterday to discuss the possibility of providing air service to and from the CNMI.
Based in Koror, PacificFlier serve travelers from Palau, the Philippines, Guam and Australia.
Press Secretary Angel Demapan in an interview said although no commitment has been made at this point, the PacificFlier airline officials gave the governor a “notice of interest.”
Demapan did not get the two airline officials’ names because they went out with the governor for lunch.
He said the airline officials want know about the CNMI’s airline industry regulations and the requirements to operate an airline here.
Demapan believes an airline that offers affordable air seats will benefit many travelers in the CNMI and people from other countries who want to visit the islands.
He said the airline will help save the islands’ struggling tourism industry.
PacificFlier is composed of aircraft and airline professionals, freight and passenger marketing experts, government and regulatory advisors from the Philippines, Palau, Guam and Australia.
