McDonald’s Saipan president and owner Joe Ayuyu said the education of students starts at home and is not the sole responsibility of teachers.
“Today’s parents are usually busy, and sometimes we leave it all to the teachers to take care of our children, and this is not right,” Ayuyu said.
He said due to the hard economic times, most of the parents’ focus is on finding money for their families.
But he noted that the learning and development process of children does not end the moment they arrive home from school.
Ayuyu said he understands the plight of other parents who are businessmen like him but this should not be an excuse not to support school events and activities.
“I understand we have our hands full with other things but the education of our children should be among our top priorities,” he said.
Ayuyu has been an active supporter of school events and activities, sponsoring school improvement projects, organizing sports events and supporting teachers for the past years.
“Our children are the future leaders of our islands. Let us not be too busy to get involved in training them to be future leaders, because before we know it, it would be too late,” he said.
