Park celebrates 30th birthday tomorrow

“We invite everyone to partake of our birthday cake and join in all the games we have prepared for all members of the family, Park Ranger Rheanna Kautzman told the Variety yesterday.

“It’s all set and we will have a brief wreath-laying ceremony at the Court of Honor at 10 a.m. and after that, it will be fun, food and games for everybody,” Kautzman said.

She said children and adults can participate in the games they have prepared like scavenger hunts and bead making.

“The kids can also fill in the Junior Ranger booklets and comply with the requirements so they can get a Ranger patch,” Kautzman said.

Children can also help search for the pretend brown tree snakes made of rubber that will be hidden all over the park.

Prizes await the participants of these games.

Park Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum will be on Saipan for the celebration, as well as other staff from the sister park on Guam.

Park Ranger Nancy Kelchner earlier told the Variety that the Park turned 30 in Aug. 18, but they decided to hold the celebrations tomorrow so working parents and students can join the activities.

For three decades, the park has been instrumental in being an extension classroom for students not only from Saipan but from Tinian, Rota and Guam as well.

“Having a huge party to celebrate our birthday is our way of thanking the community for their continuous support,” Kautzman said.
