Paseo de Marianas coordinator Sonia Siwa, in an interview, said that they will be conducting a drawing contest for the grade school students of both islands.
“We will be setting up a gallery along the Paseo where the artwork of the students from both islands will be displayed,” Siwa said.
She added this year’s contest carry the theme “My Holiday Greetings to our Visitors.”
“The kids are free to come up with any drawing, depending on how they would wish to welcome visitors to the island,” Siwa said.
The contest will run from Dec. 4 to Jan. 6, 2009. Siwa added that a $50 prize is at stake for the first placer. Consolation prizes will also be given to other winners.
Last year, Siwa said grade school students from Tinian and Rota mailed their entries to the Paseo de Marianas Promoters.
“They can do the same this year,” Siwa said.
In line with the Christmas events, the Paseo de Marianas will hold the 7th Stamp Rally Campaign that provides stamp cards to tourists and local consumers who spend $1 and up on food and other merchandise in any of the participating restaurants and shops.
Siwa said once a card gets four stamps, it can be exchanged for a gift from the information center of the Kinpachi Restaurant.
Siwa added that a drawing kit will be provided to each family who comes with children and eats in any of the member restaurants.
“While waiting for their food orders, the family can help the child draw anything, and the drawing will be displayed in the Paseo gallery,” Siwa said.
This, she added, is one way to attract more tourists to the area.
Siwa said the 6th Stamp Rally Campaign, which ran from May to September this year, brought in thousands of children’s drawings that are now displayed at the Paseo.
“We are expecting a much bigger turnout of displays this year,” she said.
