Kinpachi Restaurant manager Misako Kamata told Variety that for the first time, they did not invite regular volunteers, specifically the members of the PDM Promoters, Saipan Awaodori team and their parents to join.
“Our cleanup for October was limited to staffers of the Kinpachi Restaurant. We decided not to involve the children (Saipan Awaodori team) last Saturday because we knew they were busy with lots of other activities,” Kamata said.
PDM Promoters Inc. holds its regular monthly cleanup every first or second Saturday of the month, collecting trash in the area that starts at the side of Winchill’s, down Coral Point Avenue, around Paseo de Marianas, to the fire station and in front of American Memorial Park.
Over the years, the cleanup has also drew the participation from tourists from Japan.
Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said that getting the kids to participate in the monthly cleanup is the most effective way of teaching them the importance of maintaining a clean environment and the role it plays in the tourism industry.
Kamata said interested individuals who want to join the future monthly cleanups can contact Kinpachi Restaurant at 234-6900.
