Personnel says vacancies will not hamper gov’t services

Personnel Director Juan I. Tenorio says the Office of Personnel Management is doing “everything” to address vacancies in various government agencies and departments.

The delivery of government services to the public will not be hampered, he said.

“The classification of eligible employees has been amended to make sure that we have the minimum of five eligible candidates for each position,” Tenorio said.

As of Monday, there were seven vacant positions that OPM had announced. There is one vacancy each in the Commonwealth Election Commission, the Department of Public Works’ Division of Technical Services, the Department of Public Health, and three in the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

According to Tenorio, potential government positions will be certified and authorized by the governor before the vacancies are announced.

OPM will also make sure that there are available funds for the salaries of the employees that will be hired, Tenorio said.

The Department of Finance, for its part, will certify the availability of funds.

OPM will then select the eligible applicants whose names will be forwarded to the particular agency and department for interview and final selection.

“Right now, we are doing our best to make sure that the different departments and agencies will know the status of every position they want to be filled,” Tenorio said.
