SAN Vicente Elementary School students are literally jumping on the opportunity to help raise funds for cardiovascular research.
On June 11, the students will hold the first annual Jump Rope for Heart Event on their campus to raise money for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and other educational programs, SVES Principal Janet Villagomez said.
Villagomez along with Yvette Peterson, this year’s event coordinator, will lead the students in their efforts to create more awareness about heart disease and stroke—the two leading causes of death in the U.S.
“Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance,” Villagomez said.
The principal said the event aims to teach children about the importance of a healthy lifestyle at a young age and allow them to make a difference in the community.
“The event empowers children as they provide vital community service and discover that they can make a difference. At the same time, students enjoy being part of a team while jumping into the spirit of this fun-filled activity,” Villagomez and Peterson said.
San Vicente students are already excited about the upcoming activity and have informed the adults in their families about it.
Villagomez said interested persons should contact Peterson at 664-3981 if they want to join.
