Abal said he was sorry about the comment made by PNG High Commissioner to New Zealand Bernard Narokobi that the trip to Tonga via NZ was a “joy ride.”
The minister said he was not happy with the high commissioner and his comments about the head of state’s visit and how he was treated in New Zealand.
“This was an important official trip…and I as the Foreign Affairs minister support the G-G’s trip. I am sorry that this happened as there should have been a proper reception for the head of state,” Abal said. “The high commissioner was not present at the airport because he was attending another meeting.”
