Department of Public Safety spokesman Jason T. Tarkong said the body of Gi Cheol Han, a resident of Chalan Kanoa, was taken out of the waters by Police Officer Emery Kaipat.
Police officers then administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim but he never regained consciousness.
Tarkong said officers had a difficult time searching for the victim as the waves and ocean swells were big at the time.
DPS dispatched emergency personnel to respond to the drowning incident in Cow Town, Marpi at 2:36 p.m. on Saturday.
It was Officer Elias Saralu who spotted the victim submerged on the floor bed of the sea floor, about 10-15 feet deep.
The officers transported the body to Smiling Cove where it was then transported to the CHC emergency room.
A doctor pronounced the victim dead at 4:45 p.m.
Fluid was found in Han’s lungs.
The victim, who owned the Paris Croissant Bakery in Garapan, fell from a cliff line while fishing with two other companions on Saturday noon.
He was walking toward another group of men who were fishing when a huge wave dragged him to the waters.
