Police officer, emergency dispatcher commended for lifesaving actions

THE Department of Public Safety and the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services commended Police Officer Vince Igitol and Emergency Dispatcher Karay Fitial for their immediate lifesaving actions during an emergency call on Oct. 23, 2024. 

“Their actions saved the life of a 12-year-old,” Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said.

“DPS received a 911 call at 4:28 p.m.,” he added. “A 12-year-old was unconscious and not breathing. Dispatcher initiated lifesaving actions by calmly communicating with the caller and providing instructions to initiate CPR, while disseminating information to responding officers. Officer Igitol arrived at the scene and immediately initiated CPR and eventually revived the patient, who was later transported by DFEMS to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation,” Manacop added.

“Officer Igitol and Dispatcher Fitial demonstrated exceptional bravery and quick thinking that saved a life. Their selfless actions are a testament to their dedication to serving and protecting our community. DPS is forever grateful for their heroism. Thank you, Officer Vince Igitol and Emergency Dispatcher Karay Fitial,” Manacop said.

No further details about the incident were available at press time on Tuesday evening.
