Poor health services at Tinian center

“Most of our children are either born on Saipan or Guam,” one of them told this reporter.

Other residents, who also declined to be identified, complained about the poor health services at the Tinian Health Center.

Anthony Cabrera of the special project division of the mayor’s office said currently, they accommodate Tinian’s pregnant women at a guest house on Saipan.

“I am sure the resident director of THC is looking into this problem,” Cabrera said.

Tinian patients with broken bones are also treated at the Commonwealth Health Center on Saipan since THC has no doctor for that kind of injury, he added.

In a separate interview, THC resident director Ray Dela Cruz Jr. said their doctor can help women give birth, but they need to upgrade their facilities at the center.

“We don’t want any risks,” he said, adding it is his goal to have a fully equipped labor and delivery room at the center.

Acting Tinian Mayor Patrick Manglona, the municipal council chairman, said they want to address the center’s lack of doctors.

“But we don’t have the funding right now,” he added.

He said he will meet with Maia, the community development advocate, to discuss the health center’s problems.
