Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Commonwealth Ports Authority Chair Jose Ayuyu met last week with retired Rear Admiral Ann C. Phillips, the administrator of the Department of Transportation Maritime Administration, Deputy Administrator Tamekia Flack, Executive Director Jack Kammerer and other senior leaders of MARAD to discuss the port infrastructure needs on Saipan, Rota and Tinian. MARAD supports the technical aspects of maritime transportation infrastructure, including ships and shipping, port and vessel operations, national security, environment, and safety. The governor’s travel to the nation’s capital, which included meetings with officials of different federal agencies and military branches, was funded through a federally sourced grant.
