Private cars used to transport tourists

The group also expressed dismay over the failure  of the government to crack down on “an illegal activity that victimizes tourists.”

Rabby Syed, president of the taxi group, said some “beach boys” also operate private cars to transport tourists.

Beach boys work for businesses that offer speed and banana boat rides to tourists.

“This is also affecting  legitimate taxi operators who pay taxes,” Syed said.

He said he was advised by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official to make a formal request for an investigation of this illegal activity.

He said he also asked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to look into the immigration status of the illegal taxi operators and the beach boys.

His group, he said, also noticed that some restaurants and tour agencies are using their private vehicles to transport tourists.

“They have no business license to transport passengers,” he added.

Syed said he already asked the Department of Commerce and the Legislature to look into these illegal activities.
