PSS personnel learn about computer programs

It was open to all PSS staff who wanted to properly utilize different computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher as well as Adobe design software and apply these to their workplace so they can be more efficient in their tasks.

Emelinda Cabrera, PSS-Central graphic designer, conducted the workshop.

“I was asked to see if I could present a better way of actually using the software that they were given. I’m teaching design fundamentals. It’s about creating a better workflow,” she said.

Before the session started, Cabrera asked the participants —teachers, librarians and  administrative staff —  what specifically they would like to know about the programs.

“I know a bunch of them know the basics. I have to cater to what they want to learn,” she said.

Some teachers wanted to learn how to make certificates and flyers while administrative officers wanted to know how to use the letterhead properly or how to work efficiently with a certain program.

“They got a better view of what it means to be a graphic designer,” she said.

Pastor Gagaring, a seventh grade math teacher in Hopwood Junior High School, said he wanted to learn the Power Point program.

Terry Shiprit, Hopwood Junior High School registrar, said she learned how to do certificates.

“I wanted to learn how to do our letterhead when we write to the parents. It is part of my registrar work,” she said.

Janice Muna, Chacha Oceanview Junior High School counselor, said she needed to brush up on her computer skills.

“I like to learn the different programs that we use in our school. This is the opportunity to do that,” she said.

Ron Mostales, Chacha Oceanview Junior High School computer teacher, wanted to further enhance his knowledge.

“For me it’s kind of like a review. Part of what interested me to attend the class is the Adobe program. I wanted to see what they had to offer,” he said.

The design fundamental workshops were held at Garapan Elementary School on Wednesday, at Hopwood Junior High school on Thursday and at Marianas High School on Friday.
