PSS replaces Rota High School, KoES principals

PSS also appointed a new food and nutrition officer yesterday — Heejae Lee who replaces Dorina Salas.

Sharlene Manglona is the new acting principal at Rota High School, replacing Lynne J. Michael who earlier recommended Manglona’s non-renewal.

When Michael went on a vacation some weeks ago, PSS named Manglona as the school’s acting principal.

Michael filed her resignation upon her return.

Acting Education Commissioner Craig Garrison said Michael  wants to transfer to another school.

At Koblerville Elementary School acting principal Eric Evangelista was replaced by Rizalina Purugganan — the classroom teacher who earlier filed a grievance against  Evangelista.

She accused him of forcing her and her husband to resign and, when they refused, later recommended their non-renewal.

Purugganan’s husband also teaches at KoES.

Garrison said Evangelista wants to transfer to another school to assume the vice principal’s position.

Purugganan’s appointment, Garrison added, has nothing to do with the grievance filed against Evangelista.

“The selection is purely based on her history and abilities within  PSS and current contribution to the Koblerville Elementary as attested by her staff and faculty,” said Garrison, who neither confirmed nor denied that her grievance was already addressed by PSS.

But he said the “new appointments” may be followed by many other changes within the system.

Variety learned that on July 31, the PSS legal counsel informed Purugganan that the school system had acted on her grievance.

Purugganan, in an interview, told Variety said she was “very happy and very satisfied” with the school system’s action.

She said her husband, April Purugganan, will remain a teacher at Koblerville and will continue to serve  PSS when he comes back from his military training.

The new acting principal, who has been with PSS for 13 years, is hoping to have a better school year that will focus on student achievement.

According to Garrison, Dorina Salas will continue work for PSS to “support the efforts” of its food and nutrition service.

“It was the opinion of the leadership team to take the  food and nutrition service into a different direction,” the acting commissioner said.
