Police executives meeting kicks off today

The meeting, according to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro, will be attended by police chiefs, commissioners and directors from various Micronesian law enforcement entities.

Acting Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago Tudela and Gov. Benigno R. Fitial are among the guest speakers.

Issues that will be tackled today include concerns on human trafficking, the U.S. military buildup, the FBI’s intelligence process, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, terrorism in Micronesia and Asia, transnational organized crime, regional drug trends, regional crime lab, friends of the crime lab non-profit project, and the  law enforcement perspective.

Police chiefs from Chuuk, Pohnpei, Yap, and the Marshall Islands are going to present the challenges and accomplishments in their areas tomorrow.

The three-day meeting is hosted by DPS, the Commonwealth Ports Authority and the Department of Corrections.

 The other speakers for the conference are from the U.S. Department of Defense, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the South Pacific Police Association, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and other agencies.

On Thursday, DPS, CPA and Corrections will present their status reports.
