They are continually celebrated and appreciated for the many roles they play as a teacher, counselor, parent, mentor, friend, nurse, leader, coach, and advisor.
PSS teachers, teacher aides, and instructors come to school every day with their focus on Students First initiative by empowering, building character education, and molding young minds of students to ensure that they perform at their maximum capacity.
Tyce Mister, a teacher from Marianas High School, describes his day in the classroom:
“I try my best to start off in a positive light with a warm greeting.
“To me, it is important to recognize that the individuals who come through my classroom door are people first.
“The nature of this class, Cooperative Education & Training, has the students contemplate their futures quite a bit.
“By interviewing, making a training decision, getting out in the workforce and training with a mentor, students are able to get an up close and personal look at the importance of an education.
“We’ve been working on the book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.’
“In this book students work on themselves (private victory) and focus on their relationships with others and teamwork (public victory).
“This on-the-job-training and the ‘7 Habits’ book is a potent combination, where I see students grow and mature into young adults throughout the course of a single semester.
“My goal is to help each student tap into their intrinsic motivation which enables them to strive in reaching their true potential today and in the future.”
Teachers not only teach students to read, write, compute, get along, be problem-solvers, etc.
They make a difference in the lives of students every single day.
They do this by believing in them, inspiring, motivating, and supporting them in all that they do.
They provide a shoulder to cry on when students are sad and a listening ear for when students want to talk.
Teachers know exactly what to do and have answers even when it’s not the one you want to hear.
