Public Health identifies staffer in misuse of gov’t vehicle

The employee’s supervisor has already taken action against the employee. Villagomez didn’t identify them.

He said the action taken against the employee was based on his memorandum which he issued last August.

In his memorandum, Villagomez reminded Public Health officials that all government vehicle drivers must have an existing government-issued driver’s permit and a valid driver’s license.

“It has been brought to my attention that quite a number of [Public Health] employees that are assigned government vehicles have been using such vehicles for personal use,” he said.

The memorandum stated that all personal use of government-issued vehicles is prohibited: this includes dropping off children to school, shopping for personal use, or giving a ride to non-Public Health employees.

“If an employee is found violating this policy, he or she will lose the privilege of suing government-issue vehicles and will be reprimanded up to and including termination,” the memorandum added.

The memorandum was addressed to the deputy secretary for hospital administration, the deputy secretary for public health administration, the community guidance center director, the Medicaid program administrator and the medical referral services manager.

Copies of the memorandum  were also furnished to all Public Health personnel.
