Public Health launches free dance classes

The kick-off coincided with the first anniversary celebration of Rose Dance School, which was selected to help Public Health implement the Wise Women Village Project.

The classes are for ballroom dancing lessons and will be conducted at least three times a week in seven villages — Gualo Rai, San Vicente, San Antonio, Koblerville, Susupe, Garapan and Kagman.

Rose Dance School manager Carol Chan said they are honored to be selected for the Wise Women project.

She said Public Health wants to make the project as interesting as possible and Rose Dance Studio is more than happy to do so.

Dance instructor Eden Quizon said over 100 showed up for the launching of the dance classes.

He said a lot of people now recognize the need to lose weight and to focus on  healthy living.

It was Wise Women Village Project program director Dr. Gary Ramsey who brought up the idea of using ballroom dancing to promote healthy living.

Ballroom dancing can help reduce cholesterol level, increase energy, strengthen bones, increase flexibility, improve posture, improve mental health and reduce stress, Quizon said.

The dance lessons will be held from 6:30 p.m., to 8:30 p.m. at the San Vicente Social Hall on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; San Antonio Youth Center on Wednesdays and Fridays; Koblerville Youth Center on Mondays; 4H Club House in Susupe on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; Kagman Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays; and Garapan Central Park on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

There will also be dance lessons at the governor’s house in Gualo Rai on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
