Public Health OKs reopening of Island Medical Center

Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez said Island Medical Center is operating again but its laboratory service remains suspended.

He said the clinic’s activities are also being closely monitored.

“We’ve been meeting with them on a daily basis. They’ve reorganized their system,” said Villagomez during a press conference at the governor’s office yesterday afternoon.

IMC was shut down on March 4 for an “unlawful pattern or practice of issuing health certificates either without blood screening tests or on the basis of false, forged and/or altered lab test documentary results.”

Its patients whose medical services were not completed due to the clinic’s shutdown were told to present their receipts to get refunds.

Villagomez said he will ensure that IMC pay back its patients.

“They are making due efforts to make sure that they pay the labs that were pending and also individuals who were owed money,” he said. “I will personally make sure that it’s done.”

He said IMC lost its patients’ accounts data because some of its computers were supposedly taken  by its former accountant who has already left the CNMI.
