Rep. Stanley T. Torres, Ind.-Saipan, introduced the local legislation last year.
The proposed amendments include rezoning properties on lower Navy Hill from rural to village commercial; Chinatown properties which cover those from Navy Hill Road, King Road and Commonwealth Road from rural to mixed commercial, among other areas.
The entire San Roque village is also proposed to be rezoned from being a village to village commercial.
A new section will be introduced to make a comprehensive text amendment depicting the permitted, conditional and temporary uses in zoning districts around the island.
The first public hearing will be held on June 6 at 6 p.m. at Garapan Elementary School.
A similar one is scheduled for June 7 at 6 p.m. at Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
The Kagman Community Center will host a public hearing on June 8 at 6 p.m.
On June 9, the zoning office located on the second floor of Joeten Dandan Building will host the fourth public hearing.
San Vicente Elementary School will host the next public hearing on June 10, also at 6 p.m.
On June 13, the public hearing will be held at Dandan Elementary School and the last one is scheduled for the 14th at Koblerville Elementary School.

The Zoning Office’s public hearings are marred by low or no turnout.
Zoning officials said they are encouraging the public to participate in the scheduled hearings to ensure their voices are heard before lawmakers act on the local bill.
