Radiation levels in NMI, US safe

“I want to thank Administrator Lisa Jackson and her team at  EPA for recognizing that the Northern Marianas should be one of the 12 locations in the United States that receive detailed analysis of particles collected from their radiation monitoring equipment. We are the closest U.S. location to Japan that has a substantial population. And we are all glad to see that the data EPA is collecting continues to show no harmful level of air-borne radiation.

It is also a very good policy decision to have all of the data being collected from the monitor on Saipan and from monitors all around the U.S. Pacific available online for anyone to see.

“I want also to thank Administrator Jackson again for responding to my concern that there was no plan to put a monitor in the Northern Marianas by installing equipment in our islands; and I hope that she will seriously consider the advisability of maintaining the Saipan monitor as a permanent component of EPA’s national radiation measurement network, RADNET.”
