Rated R wins 2009 Summer Jam & Glam

Rated R went home with the $200 cash prize and special gift packs from IT&E for winning the IT&E Texter’s Choice award.

The band garnered over 1,000 votes from supporters through text messages.

5-Dollar Haircut came in second, winning $150 prize.

Scarlett Theory grabbed third place and received $100 cash.

The other contestants were D is for Grape Drink, Iskupz and Vyruz.

Second place winner in the IT&E Texter’s Choice was Vyruz while Scarlett Theory placed third.

Rated-R’s members are Ross Cesar at the drums; Silverio Artates, guitar and vocals; Mark Badal, lead guitar and vocals; Phonani Lazona, guitar and vocals; and Budz Camacho, bass.

They had the audience clapping and stomping their feet throughout their performance.

The competing bands were given seven minutes to set up and 20 minutes to perform.

In between the battle of the bands, Beach Road Magazine cover models, Northern Marianas College students and children showcased back-to-school lines, everyday casual, beach wear, formal and business wear for youth and adults in a three-segment fashion show from the collections of Joeten Shopping Center and its affiliates — The Athlete’s Foot, Boarderline and All Star Sporting Goods as part of Joeten’s 60th anniversary celebration.

Beach Road Magazine account manager Susan Marchitti said the turnout was good.

She said the community can expect a more lavish Summer Jam & Glam event next year.

Last year’s winners were Burning Bush, High Pitch and Frozen Nipple.

This year, the organizers reduced the number of competing bands to give way to the fashion show.

Brad Ruszala of IT&E was the program host.

Summer Jam & Glam was presented by Shell Marianas with Joeten Enterprises, Northern Marianas College, Marpac, Tan Holdings Corp., Coca Cola Beverage (Micronesia) Inc., Foremost and Florida-based Adam’s Marine Seminars.
