(SMO) — Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho recently met with local regulatory agencies, including Administrator Floyd Masga of BECQ, Program Administrator John Tagabuel of CHCC Environmental Health Disease Prevention, and Administrator Therese Ogumoro of Zoning, to establish a joint task force for village inspections.
The meeting focused on creating a unified approach to village inspections, ensuring all regulatory agencies follow a consistent set of procedures. By working together, the task force aims to streamline regulations and educate our community by fostering a shared responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
This initiative builds upon Mayor RB’s ongoing village residential cleanup efforts, which have been in place for the past year. “For many years, our villages have struggled with overgrown vegetation, piles of junk cars, e-waste, and etc. that not only affect the beauty of our island, but also pose safety and health risks,” said Mayor RB. “I wanted to provide the resources needed to help our people clean our villages and start fresh. Once the cleanup is complete, I respectfully ask our community to take pride in their villages and work together to maintain and care for their surroundings.”
Recognizing the connection between a clean environment and public health, Mayor RB along with the regulatory agencies, stressed that cleaner communities could lead to better overall well-being for residents. Reducing waste and eliminating unsanitary conditions can help prevent the spread of disease, create safer neighborhoods, and enhance the quality of life for all.
To further encourage community participation, the idea of implementing incentives and awards for cleanliness and safety was discussed. Categories such as “Most Clean Residential Area” and “Most Clean Village” will recognize residents and villages that take responsibility for their surroundings.
Through these initiatives, Mayor RB and the task force are committed to promoting a “Safe Community, Safe Village, and a Clean island” for both our residents and visitors. It is important to emphasize that it takes a village to clean the island, and it will take that same village to preserve its pristine beauty.
