The board, in a recent meeting, discussed House Bill 17-188 which will equally distribute ETC donations among all public and private schools, depending on their student population.
Rep. Fredrick P. Deleon Guerrero, Ind.-Saipan, introduced the measure.
“The board recognizes the inherent value of the education tax credit to NMC and its students,” said Regent William S. Torres, a former House member.
He said the board will ask the Legislature to allow NMC to directly receive ETC donations.
The board at the same time expressed support for House Resolution 17-33 introduced by Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro, Covenant-Saipan.
The resolution acknowledges and supports the work of NMC’s Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in the preparation, publication and dissemination of the 2011-2015 Aquaculture Development Plan for the CNMI.
The board during its meeting also adopted a supplemental budget of $836,160 to cover the salaries of personnel and utility consumption until September.
