Repeat offender arrested for burglary and criminal trespass

JIMMY Kaipat, a repeat offender, was arrested after he broke into a Chalan Kanoa home on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.

Kaipat, 24, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, disturbing the peace, and contempt of court.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $12,250 cash bail on Kaipat and remanded him to the custody of the Department of Corrections after a bail hearing on Friday.

Kaipat was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

The defendant was ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 1 at 10 a.m., and on Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.

According to the complaint against Kaipat, the Department of Public Safety central office dispatched units to Terry’s Snack Bar in Chalan Kanoa on Aug. 24, at 1:23 a.m. in response to a reported burglary.

The snack bar owner told police that her neighbor, Kaipat, broke into her house.

At around 1 a.m., she said, she heard her front screen door open, then later, her bedroom door.

She said she turned on the lamp and saw Kaipat standing inside her bedroom. She said she shouted at Kaipat, asking him what he was doing in her bedroom.

She said Kaipat did not say anything. She said she got scared, got up and hit him on his left shoulder and told him to leave. She said she pushed him out of the house.

She told police that Kaipat would always come into her snack bar, bothering her or her customers and asking for cigarettes.

She said Kaipat would also bother female students who hang out at her establishment, adding that she was worried he might do something to them.

Kaipat is on probation for a previous criminal trespass and a criminal misdemeanor case.
