Saipan Humane Society Spay/Neuter Clinic continues August 28-31

The Saipan Humane Society August Spay/Neuter Clinic wrapped up week one of veterinary surgeries this week, and the organization founder reminds the community that online registration is available for next week’s round of operations.

Lauren Cabrera, the organization’s founder, said that from August 28-31 the Mayor of Saipan’s Animal Shelter will continue to host veterinarian Dr. Mariah Coakley. Coakley has been performing dog and cat spay/neuter services on Saipan since August 21.

According to Cabrera, her presence on island is made possible through the support of the Banfield Foundation, a nonprofit organization from America.

“This vet is very professional and kind and compassionate and she’s teaching us a lot,” Cabrera said. “This clinic has been really smooth.”

Cabrera says that while appointments remain open, interested pet owners can register their pets for surgery online at saipanhumanesociety.org. The animal shelter can accommodate 25 dogs per day, according to Cabrera.

Directions on how to register animals for surgery are available online, and a phone number is likewise available for questions to be sent via WhatsApp.

Spay or neuter services are $50 with an additional $25 charge if the surgery is “complex,” meaning the animal is pregnant or is a large female, according to the website.

Cabrera says next week only dogs will be accommodated for surgery with Dr. Coakley.

Cabrera adds that pet owners may drive up to the animal shelter with their dogs in their vehicles. Owners will register and drop off their pet, and then may drive away. Animal shelter staff will phone when the dog is ready for pick up.

“We want to get them all checked in early so we can focus on what we’re doing inside the shelter,” Cabrera said.
