Report: Most PSS elementary students score average, above average

A stanine, which is short for “standard nine-point scale,” is a type of scaled score used in many norm-referenced standardized tests.

Public School System federal programs officer Tim Thornburgh said 72 percent of all third graders, 73 percent  of all fifth graders, and 76 percent of all sixth graders had average or above average scores.

There were 118 third graders who scored above average, 474 had average scores, while 230 scored below average.

Among the fifth graders, 77 scored above average, 519 had average scores, while 222 scored below average.

There were 89 sixth graders who scored above average; 537, average; and  199  below average.

At Gregorio T. Camacho, 93 percent of its third graders, 97 percent of its fifth graders, and 85 percent of its sixth graders scored average or above average.

On Tinian, all of the third graders scored average and above; nine students scored above average; and the remaining 25 had  average scores.

Among the school’s fifth graders, four scored above average; 27, average; and four, below average.

Eighty-four percent of Tinian’s sixth graders scored  average or above average.

At San Vicente Elementary School, 87 percent of the third graders, 82 percent of the fifth graders and 94 percent of the sixth graders had average or above average scores.

At Koblerville, 86 percent of the third graders, 63 percent of the fifth graders, and 80 percent of the sixth had average or above average scores.

At Dandan, 70 percent of the third graders, 81 percent of the fifth graders, and 72 percent of the sixth graders had average or above average scores.

At Garapan, 72 percent of the third graders, 73 percent of the fifth graders, and 78 percent of the sixth graders had average or above average scores.

At San Antonio, 84 percent, 65 percent and 66 percent of students in the same three grade levels had average or above average scores.

The scores for other schools are as follows:

• Tanapag — 58 percent, 64 percent and 61 percent

• Oleai — 55 percent, 78 percent and 71 percent

• William S. Reyes — 62 percent, 77 percent  and 74 percent

• Kagman — 59 percent for third graders and 52 percent for fifth graders

• Rota’s Sinapalo — 69 percent for third graders and 71 percent for  fifth graders.

The sixth graders of Kagman and Sinapalo hold classes at Chacha Oceanview Junior High School and Rota Jr. High School.
