A 26-year-old resident of As Gonno called up the Variety for the second time to complain about a nonresident farmer who has been tampering with the water piping system of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. near the Coral Ocean Point golf course.
The resident who lives across from the farm said the farmer goes to the site usually at night to connect approximately 5 feet of pipe to a CUC water outlet to irrigate his nearby farm.
The farmer usually unplugs his equipment in the morning, said the resident who declined to be identified.
He said the farmer cultivates corn, watermelon and cucumber and his farm is close to the CUC water piping system.
CUC water/wastewater division has already been informed about the resident’s complaint.
The deputy director of CUC’s water/wastewater division, Bruce Megarr, said he had personally investigated the complaint.
Megarr suspects that the farmer has been replacing the water meter with a fake one to steal the water supply.
He said they have not yet caught the farmer in the act of tampering with the water system.
He is asking members of the public to come forward and present a video, or time and date-stamped pictures of the farmer in the act of tampering with the water piping system in As Gonno.
He said CUC closely coordinates with the police on matters involving wire or water theft.
