The residents declined to be identified, saying their applications might be turned down.
One of them said Camacho treats them “poorly and indifferently whenever they inquire about their applications.”
Another applicant said he felt abused by Camacho because “he does not treat us well.”
The residents interviewed by this reporter said they are wondering why somebody with a criminal background could be appointed to such a government position.
Records from the Attorney General’s Office showed that Camacho was charged with a “prohibited act in 1981 and mischief in 1987.”
In 1998, he was sentenced for a felony.
The Office of Personnel Management, in a statement, said the “appointment of somebody who has a criminal record to a certain position would depend if the person has served his sentence.”
OPM said those who have a criminal background should not be appointed to a position related to the crime.
“An example is a person who committed burglary — he cannot be appointed as head of Department of Finance.”
Variety tried but failed to get Camacho’s comment.
