CRA president Juan M. Sablan, who is lobbying for the passage of House Bill 17-97, showed up again in the Senate on Friday to express support for the measure.
However, the bill which was passed by the House on Wednesday last week, was not on the Senate session agenda because its author, Rep. Stanley T. Torres, Ind.-Saipan, wanted it recalled.
Torres said he still has to come up with a substitute bill because there are provisions that need substantial changes.
In a separate interview, Sablan said it is important for the CRA to have a representative to the Retirement Fund board.
“We’d like to have somebody from us on the Retirement Fund board so we can have a voice and an advocate for retiree concerns,” he said.
Sablan said CRA has been pushing for the legislation since last year.
He said once Torres’ bill becomes law, the CRA general membership will submit nominees to the CRA board which will make the final selection.
Sablan said he cannot serve as CRA representative because he already has a lot of commitments.
“My hands are full already,” he added. He said he prefers someone with experience and background in financial matters.
