Returning Filipino workers encouraged to sign up for job profiling

“We called this program profiling for those who seek assistance for employment,” labor attaché Carmelina F. Velasquez said on Sunday.

It is aimed at assisting Filipino workers to find jobs in their home country through the reference they provided to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in CNMI, she said.

Before leaving CNMI, Filipino workers will fill up the four-page National Reintegration Center for Overseas Filipino Workers service registration form.

All information they provide will be forwarded to the Department of Labor and Employment in Manila, Velasquez said.

In most cases, the Department of Labor and Employment and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration assisted Filipino workers who went home by batches.

For Filipino workers from CNMI, they have to report to the DOLE and may follow up on their profile taken before they left Saipan, she said.

Consul Belinda Ante said the program is extended to all homecoming Filipino workers regardless of whether he or she is an active member of the OWWA or not.

She encouraged returning Filipino workers to avail themselves of the program.

On Sunday, when the consulate general conducted its quarterly free health screening, over 20 Filipino workers signed up the NRCO service registration form.

More than 60 Filipino workers have filled out the form since they launched the program two weeks ago, Velasquez said.

Azucena Par, 65, a long-time nonresident worker on Saipan, filled out the form to get assistance once she arrives in Philippines.

Par is scheduled to leave CNMI by next July.

The consulate general has been holding programs to give alternative sources of livelihood to the Filipino workers.

The program is stipulated in the Reintegration Program for Overseas Filipino Workers, Velasquez said.

“The livelihood trainings given by the consulate helps a lot to those who want to start up a business,” she said.

Consul general Medardo Macaraig had announced the continuation of its livelihood modules on video.

The VCDs, entitled “Gabay sa Negosyo” obtained from the Technology Resource Center, aim to equip Filipinos with information on various livelihood and small business opportunities in the Philippines, he said.

The VCDs will be shown during office hours at Room 502, Philippine Consulate General, 5th floor, Marianas Business Plaza, Susupe.
