He introduced Senate Resolution 17-72 which noted that because it involves widening and asphalting of the road and construction of drainage systems from Chalan Msgr. Guerrero in San Vicente to Isa Drive on Capital Hill, the seven-mile federally funded Cross Island road dismantled several structures along the way.
The four-phased project is now halfway to completion with the current work site now at the intersection of Kagman Road and Isa Drive in Papago.
The structures that had to go included the bus stop and the historic round house in San Vicente intersection near the church.
Although motorists now enjoy the new highway, the students have run out of shelter, Reyes said.
With the onset of the rainy season, he added, many students from San Vicente get wet each day before they even reach their classroom.
His resolution stated that the decision to remove the bus stop “should have been with the understanding that the bus stop will be rebuilt after the road project is completed.”
With Sen. Luis P. Crisostimo Ind.-Saipan and Sen. Ralph DLG Torres, R-Saipan absent, all the senators present voted to adopt the resolution.
