Rota council employees will finally get paid

THE 20 unpaid Rota Municipal Council employees will finally receive their salaries.

“There is already money. There is already solution to that problem,” Rota Mayor Benjamin T. Manglona told Variety yesterday.

Manglona said his office, the Legislature, the Municipal Council and the administration paved the way for the release of the pay checks.

It was the Rota Municipal Council that hired the employees, and they were not part of the job status conversion process implemented by the government, Council Vice Chairman Jeff Manglona said.

The employees are assigned to various administrative and clerical positions, he added.

He said the conversion process “caused the problem.”

“But I am happy to say that the problem has been resolved and hopefully the council can now start working,” he said.

The council vice chairman said money was not reprogrammed just to pay the salaries of the 20 employees.

He said the money will be drawn from the Rota Municipal Council’s account.

Efraim Atalig, chief of staff to the mayor, said a “series of negotiations” resolved the complaints of the council employees.

The mayor offered his assistance to the council “so it could perform its constitutional and legal responsibilities.”
