Rota has new casino commissioner

Council Chairman George O. Hocog yesterday said there were no issues against Atalig during the hearing at the courthouse.

It took the council about two hours to deliberate on the confirmation of Atalig, he said.

Although, the hearing was not well-attended by community members, he said the council did not fail to inform the public about it.

He said there were eight testimonies all in favor of Atalig’s confirmation.

In a separate interview, Rep. Teresita A. Santos said she has  confidence in Atalig’s  “managerial skills and experience in the government.”

Atalig, she said, is a former House member, municipal council member and resident director of commerce.

“He is a law-abiding citizen,” she said.

Laura Manglona, the chairwoman of the casino commission. also testified in favor of Atalig.

Hocog,  who earlier said that there was no need for another commissioner in light of the government’s financial condition, said the support for Atalig’s confirmation was “overwhelming.”

He said Atalig also complied with all the requirements.

Atalig was nominated by Mayor Melchor A. Mendiola last month and will join Manglona Ephrem S. Taimanao and Abelina T. Mendiola on the commission.

The Rota commission earlier received a budget of $228,865 for the salaries of commissioners.
