DCCA acting resident director Julita Calvo yesterday said the model parents will be selected based on their significant contributions and work in the family, community and school.
“We are expecting more nominees this year,” Calvo said.
The model parents will sign an agreement to pledge that they will carry on their work as good role models, and continue their involvement in parent-educational programs in the community, she added.
The program is part of the Parent Leadership Month celebration in February.
The celebration aims to recognize and honor parents for the vital leadership roles they play in their homes and communities.
Calvo said the program will also help strengthen the family and prevent child abuse and neglect at home.
On Monday, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos signed the proclamation declaring February as Parent Leadership Month.
On Rota, the program committee met on Tuesday night to discuss the activities that will enhance and strengthen the relationship between parents and children.
These include “lunch buddy,” which involves a parent spending time with his child in school during lunchtime; and “celebrity reading,” in which a prominent member of the community or a government official will read books or share his experiences with the students
Calvo said the committee, whose members include Marla Bacinas and Elaine Orilla, is reaching out to the community and is hoping for more parent involvement.
