In yesterday’s meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan, Rotarian Mike Tripp said he is going to donate 650 DVDs.
He is urging his fellow Rotarians to also donate used DVDs which will be sent to DVDs4VETs.
“These donated DVDs will be distributed to servicemembers and veterans to entertain them and give them diversion,” Tripp said.
Rotary club treasurer Elly Stoilova donated $100 for the DVDs4VETS drive.
“I hate war and everything associated with war, but I support our troops and our veterans,” Stoilova said. Other Rotarians also donated various amounts for the DVD drive.
The DVDs4VETS, which is based in New York, is a non-political group and does not solicit financial assistance. It is an organization whose mission is to provide DVDs to veterans who cannot afford to buy them.
To date, DVDs4VETS has received over 300,000 used and new DVDs from various donors. They also accept DVD players.
DVDs4Vets was established in 2006 following reports of the increasing number of severely wounded soldiers returning home from Iraq, who, because of physical hardships, were unable to easily obtain entertainment like DVDs.
Individuals who wish to donate DVDs or veterans who want to receive DVDs can visit www.dvds4vets.org for more details.
