Sablan: CPA needs more applicants for comptroller post

CPA has been operating without a comptroller since the resignation last year of George Palican.

Of the four applicants to the position, two did not meet the requirements.

Board vice chairman Thomas P. Villagomez, during the meeting on Friday, said they could already select between the two applicants, one of whom, Variety learned, is Rufo T. Mafnas.

According to Villagomez, one of the two applicants “has an extensive background in accounting and management and is a certified public accountant. I think he will greatly assist us in our indenture issues.”

Villagomez said the lack of permanent comptroller is affecting CPA’s operations.

“I do feel that we need to hire one of the two…and I prefer to give my vote and support to one of them today,” he said.

Sablan disagreed.

“We need a bigger pool of candidates because the number we have now is not sufficient,” he said.

A five-minute recess was called by Chairman Jose Lifoifoi and it was decided later to re-announce the comptroller position for two more weeks to get more applicants.
