Sablan mum on gubernatorial race

He admitted that he “had a conversation” with one of the candidates, but he will not say whether he will campaign openly for any candidate.

He also declined to comment when asked if he will publicly endorse any of the candidates.

But he said all of them are “qualified,” referring to Gov. Benigno R. Fitial,  former Sen. Ramon S. Deleon Guerrero, former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero and Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider

“Their names would be on the ballot and it would be up to the people to make the decision,” Sablan said.

He said he can work with any of the candidates as long as their programs are for  the best interest of the commonwealth.

Meanwhile, he added, he will focus on priority bills in the U.S. Congress and other federal programs that can help the CNMI, especially local education.

“Those things are my priority because those will benefit the commonwealth and all the people. That’s what the people want me to do,” he said.
