Sonia Siwa of Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc. said they will be at San Jose-Microl intersection from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday.
“We would like to ask the community to support our children as they prepare to represent Saipan in the second largest of all the Awaodori festivals held throughout Japan,” Siwa said.
The eight members of the team and some chaperones will be leaving for Japan next week.
The eight members were chosen as the best performers from over 60 members at the Koblerville, Tanapag and Gualo Rai Youth Centers.
For the past months, Siwa said parents and members of the Saipan Awaodori Team have been sending solicitation letters to their friends, relatives and supporters.
“We are really working hard so we can send more children and give Saipan a huge exposure,” she said.
In 2008, they were able to send six members to Japan but last year, budget constraints allowed them to send only one child.
Held annually, the Koenji Tokyo Awaodori Festival this year is scheduled for Aug. 28-29. For more information, contact Siwa or PDM Promoters at 234-6900.
