NMC interim President Lorraine Cabrera said they have completed a series of professional development activities.
“Professional Development Days afford our faculty and staff an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and expertise through professionally relevant and academically meaningfully activities,” she said.
The three-day event was held at the multi-purpose center in Susupe last week.
Cabrera said they decided to focus on the standards of accreditation, as stated in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ accreditation manual.
She said accreditation standards involve institutional mission and effectiveness; student learning programs and services; resources; and leadership and governance.
“This approach provided everyone, including students, an opportunity to participate in in-depth discussion about accreditation standards while at the same time contributing to NMC’s accreditation efforts,” Cabrera said. From an accreditation standpoint, these sessions have been great,” she added.
NMC’s accreditation liaison officer Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero said the professional development event helped everyone understand and appreciate the accreditation process.
“The comments and insights from these sessions will help NMC as it prepares its Oct.15, 2010 Show Cause Report and plans for the 2012 Self Study Process,” he said.
“It was also great to have students participate in the professional development activities,” said Leo Pangelinan, NMC dean of student services.
He said they learned a lot from the discussions and gained some valuable insights that came from unique perspectives.
On the third day of the event, inspirational remarks were delivered by Cabrera, NMC President Emeritus Agnes McPhetres, and Board of Regents Chairwoman Janet King.
